How to maximise your networking opportunities in 2025

Effective networking is a skill that requires a strategic approach—simply showing up, grabbing coffee, and leaving early won’t cut it. While I’ll share some top tips below, one of the most crucial aspects is profile raising. This means not only being present but also helping people understand the goals and aspirations of both the organization and yourself.
Planning and Preparation
- Plan Early: As soon as you know you’re attending an event, add it to your calendar, pay any fees, and factor in travel time. Arriving late doesn’t make the best first impression.
- Strategise: If possible, try to get the guest list beforehand. This allows you to identify who you want to connect with and plan your approach.
Making Connections
Be Approachable: Nobody likes rudeness. Sometimes, the person you want to talk to may not be interested or available. Learn to read body language—closed-off postures and hushed conversations signal privacy, while open shoulders, a welcoming smile, and engagement with the crowd indicate a willingness to connect.
Following Up and Building Relationships
- Follow Up: This is a crucial step that many people overlook. Get their business card or contact information and follow up with a brief email summarizing your conversation and suggesting a one-on-one meeting to discuss things further. This is helpful for both parties, especially if they spoke to several people at the event.
- Stay Engaged: Even if there’s no immediate opportunity to collaborate, stay connected. Future opportunities often arise unexpectedly.

- For social: Theres nothing better than getting your activity straight onto Linkedin and tagging amazing people you have met along the way. It shows a sense of attention and its a great way to raise your profile especially across the digital sphere!
